It’s Vorpal Release Day! It’s Vorpal Release Day!
Today is my comic book birthday. Today is the day we clean the fluid and placenta off a freshly stapled pulp, cut the umbilical cord, and send it off into the world.
SCREAMING. KICKING. ALIVE. Vorpal No. 2 is here.
I LOVE IT. I think you will, too.
To get to comic book birthday, these things occurred:
- I had to move 2,100 miles
- I had to undertake a new job
- My daughter had to switch schools twice
- I had to add eight pages of story
- I needed (needed) to pay tribute to one of my favorite artists (see that blog post Jan. 11)
MUCH more, including a two-week trip to Puerto Rico to help families, Veterans and others who had REAL, NO SHIT PROBLEMS THAT STILL NEED REAL NO-SHIT SOLUTIONS.
[ahem] So, my challenges to bring Vorpal No. 2 to life were minuscule by comparison. Segue …
Somewhere in there, my publisher Headshrinker’s Press and I parted ways. Made me sad. Loved those guys. They are passionate, driven and DEEP into comics like I am. We parted amicably and still kept in touch. Still, missed those guys. They published Vorpal first.
And then …
One instant message leads to another and, BOOM. On Jan. 7, I signed on with Crazy Monkey Ink. And who ELSE just joined up with and its stable of titles.
IT’S LIKE WE NEVER PARTED. We’re Harry, Ron and Hermoine. I’ll let one of them choose who will be Hermoine.
I’m excited to be part of CMI’s bullpen and keep Vorpal moving forward with a great group of people. My thanks to CMI boss Gabriel Ol Raz Ramirez.
Did this issue really take TWO YEARS to get to this day. Yep. The good news is the next two issues (the ones that will round out Vorpal‘s first act and make a damn fine trade publication/graphic novel) will be completed in 2018. I’ve also got a short story collection based in Vorpal‘s universe available in Summer 2018. It’s untitled, but there’s a great short story about resistance and chocolate in it. Mmmmm. Chocolate.
For those of you who’ve waited, THANK YOU. For those of you who came to the three or four shows I’ve attended and bought a copy, THANK YOU. For everyone else who’s had a positive word, gesture or action to make this book go, THANK YOU.
I’d also like to say thanks to the beta readers who stepped in and provided some FANTASTIC comments to help get the book into shape before release time. Your printed copies will go out this weekend.
In any case, happy comic book birthday to Vorpal and to me!
